21x30 measures 21 × 30 cm (8.3 × 11.8 in), about a sheet of A4, just 3 mm taller. It is our smallest poster, made for gallery walls, shelves and narrow walls where a larger print would take over.

30x40 measures 30 × 40 cm (11.8 × 15.7 in). That is roughly a sheet of A3 (29.7 × 42 cm): slightly wider and 2 cm shorter. Most gallery walls are built from this size, and it is large enough to stand alone above a sideboard or in a hallway.

40x50 measures 40 × 50 cm (15.7 × 19.7 in), between A3 and A2, and almost as wide as a sheet of A2 (42 cm). It suits a wall above a bedside table, a single bed or a home office, where 30x40 is too small and 50x70 too dominant.

50x70 measures 50 × 70 cm (19.7 × 27.6 in), well above a sheet of A2 (42 × 59.4 cm) but smaller than A1. It is the most common size above a sofa or double bed: large enough to carry a wall alone, and two side by side span a three-seater.

70x100 measures 70 × 100 cm (27.6 × 39.4 in), larger than a sheet of A1 (59.4 × 84.1 cm). It is our largest poster, for big walls and high ceilings, where the print should be the first thing you see in the room.

The most common mistake is going too small. Artwork that is too small for the wall looks incidental, while something slightly too large almost always works.\n\nStart from the furniture below it. A good rule of thumb is that the artwork or group of pieces covers about two thirds of the furniture's width. Above a three-seater sofa of 210 cm that means roughly 140 cm of artwork: one 70x100 print, or two 50x70 side by side. Above a 90 cm dresser, a single 50x70 or two 30x40 is enough.\n\nHanging height is nearly always the same: centre the artwork about 150 cm above the floor, which is eye level for most people. Above furniture, 20–30 cm of clearance between the furniture and the bottom edge is a better guide than measuring from the floor.\n\nHanging several together, keep 5–8 cm between frames and align either the top edges or the centre line. Uneven spacing is what makes a gallery wall look messy, not mixing sizes.
