Cookie Policy

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, improve efficiency, and provide information to website owners.

How We Use Cookies

Plakato uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be disabled. They include:

  • Session cookies: maintain your shopping cart and checkout session (provided by Shopify).
  • Cookie consent: stores your cookie preference so we don't ask you again on every visit.

Functional Cookies

These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation:

  • Preferences: remembering your currency, language, or display preferences.

Analytics Cookies

We use privacy-friendly analytics (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights) to understand how visitors use our website and how quickly it loads. These cookies collect aggregated, anonymous usage data.

Analytics cookies are only placed if you choose "Accept all" in our cookie banner. If you choose "Necessary only", we do not load analytics scripts.

Cookieless, Anonymous Visitor Statistics

In addition to the consent-based analytics above, we keep anonymous visitor statistics without cookies, to understand which pages are used and how we can improve the website. This is done in two ways: with our own measurement and with the tool PostHog.

The statistics store or read nothing in your browser – neither cookies nor other local storage. That is why we do not ask for your consent to them. When you visit a page, we record:

  • Which page you visit, and how long you stay
  • Which page or link you came from, if any
  • Browser type, operating system, and device type
  • In our own measurement only: approximate country, derived from your IP address (PostHog does not receive location data)
  • In our own measurement only: aggregated shop activity, such as products viewed or added to the cart

To count the number of visitors without recognising you, a code is calculated from, among other things, your IP address and browser. For PostHog this happens on PostHog's servers, and for our own measurement on our server, using a secret that rotates daily. The code is replaced every day, so visits on different days cannot be linked together, and the IP address itself is not stored. We do not record clicks or what you type, do not record your visit, and do not use the statistics to identify you or for marketing.

The statistics are stored on servers in the EU for up to 12 months. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). We consider that this interest outweighs the impact on you, because the statistics are limited to what is necessary and cannot be linked to you as a person. You can nevertheless object to the processing by contacting us at hello@appivate.com. If you use a browser extension that blocks tracking, normally no statistics from your visit are sent to PostHog.

Third-Party Cookies

Some cookies are set by third-party services that appear on our pages:

  • Shopify: our e-commerce platform uses cookies to support shopping cart functionality, checkout, and payment processing.

We do not have control over third-party cookies. Please refer to the respective third party's privacy policy for more information.

Cookie Duration

Cookies we use have different lifespans:

  • Session cookies: temporary and deleted when you close your browser.
  • Persistent cookies: remain on your device for a set period (typically up to 12 months) or until you delete them.

Managing Your Cookie Preferences

When you first visit our website, you will see a cookie consent banner allowing you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your preference at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site.

You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:

  • View what cookies are stored on your device
  • Delete individual or all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific or all websites
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Accept all cookies

Please note that blocking essential cookies may affect the functionality of our website, including the ability to add items to your cart or complete a purchase.

Legal Basis

Our use of cookies is governed by the EU ePrivacy Directive (as implemented in Norwegian law through the Electronic Communications Act / Ekomloven) and the GDPR.

  • Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent and are placed based on our legitimate interest in providing a functional website.
  • Functional and analytics cookies are only placed after you have given your consent through the cookie banner.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised “last updated” date.
